It came with Windows 8, which was a big negative. I bought a RetroUI program which restores most of the start button, so with that add-on, Windows 8 is somewhat better, but still awful.The machine its... You can't vote a windows 8 computer down for having windows 8. Buyers remorse usually results from dumb decisions without research. Yes the computer has window 8 and can be updated to 8.1. I did this ... I installed "Classic Shell" to get back to the regular Windows desktop setup, it is a free program. I had to reset the icons on the desktop, got rid of some that HP stuffed in there and add some need... I like this laptop. A lot. The hardware is perfect for my portable needs: remote connection to my job via secure remote desktop connection. For my out-side of work interests, I'll use this to manage a... Windows 8 is junk. Avoid it at all costs, full of little things that just make it difficult to use....

Summary: The performance of the AMD's A6 and A8 processors is noticably worse than Intel's Core i3/i5/i7 processors across the board. The AMD A6 and A8 offer better performance only for gaming.
